Leukemia Different Types Causes And Symptoms

Leukemia is cancer of the blood cells. It starts in the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside most bones. Bone marrow is where blood cells are made.

When you are healthy, your bone marrow makes:

•White blood cells, which help your body fight infection.
•Red blood cells, which carry oxygen to all parts of your body.
•Platelets, which help your blood clot.
When you have leukemia, the bone marrow starts to make a lot of abnormal white blood cells, called leukemia cells. They don't do the work of normal white blood cells, they grow faster than normal cells, and they don't stop growing when they should.
Over time, leukemia cells can crowd out the normal blood cells. This can lead to serious problems such as anemia, bleeding, and infections. Leukemia cells can also spread to the lymph nodes or other organs and cause swelling or pain.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEUKEMIA

There are several different types of leukemia. In general, leukemia is grouped by how fast it gets worse and what kind of white blood cell it affects.
•    It may be acute or chronic. Acute leukemia gets worse very fast and may make you feel sick right away. Chronic leukemia gets worse slowly and may not cause symptoms for years.
•    It may be lymphocytic or myelogenous. Lymphocytic (or lymphoblastic) leukemia affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. Myelogenous leukemia affects white blood cells called myelocytes.
The four main types of leukemia are:
1.    Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or ALL. ALL is the most common leukemia in children. Adults can also get it.
2.    Acute myelogenous leukemia, or AML. AML affects both children and adults.
3.    Chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or CLL. CLL is the most common leukemia in adults, mostly those who are older than 55. Children almost never get it.
4.    Chronic myelogenous leukemia, or CML. CML occurs mostly in adults.

CAUSES OF LEUKEMIA
  • Were exposed to large amounts of radiation.
  • Were exposed to certain chemicals at work, such as benzene.
  • Had some types of chemotherapy to treat another cancer.
  • Have Down syndrome or some other genetic problems.
  • Smoke.

SYMPTOMS OF LEUKEMIA

Symptoms may depend on what type of leukemia you have, but common symptoms include:
  • Fever and night sweats.
  • Headaches.
  • Bruising or bleeding easily.
  • Bone or joint pain.
  • A swollen or painful belly from an enlarged spleen.
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the armpit, neck, or groin.
  • Getting a lot of infections.
  • Feeling very tired or weak.
  • Losing weight and not feeling hungry.

Stomach Cancer Risk Factors Symptoms and Conclusion

Stomach cancer refers to the malignant cells formed in the lining of the stomach. The stomach is a part of the digestive system and also forms a part of the organ in the upper abdomen. The digestive system is meant to process the food that is eaten. The digestive system breaks the food into the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and water. This digestive system also helps to pass the waste out of the body. The food when eaten moves from the throat to the stomach. The tube that it passes from is called as the esophagus; it is actually a hollow muscular tube. The food leaves the stomach after passing through the digestive system and this partly digested food passes into the small intestine and then into the large intestine.

The cancer develops in the layers of the stomach and the wall of the stomach lining develops into three layers. The innermost layer is called the mucosal, the middle layer is the muscular is, and the outermost layer is called the aerosol. The stomach cancer develops in the cells lining the mucosal layer and spreads throughout the outer layer as it keeps growing. The person prone to stomach cancer can have certain factors, which are: age, diet and the stomach diseases. The increased risk of getting a cancer is what makes you prone for the risk factor. For people who don’t have these 3 factors, it still doesn’t imply that they are not risk for developing cancer and they should get themselves thoroughly checked and consult the doctor regarding this problem. Stomach cancer is also termed as gastric cancer. The risk factors include the following medical conditions like:

1. A helicobacter pylori infection of the stomach.
2. Inflammation of the stomach
3. Intestinalmetaplasia is a risky condition in which the original stomach lining is replaced. The replaced cells are the cells that line the intestines
4. Pernicious anemia
5. Gastric polyps

These risk factors are due to some of the conditions like having a diet which is high in the salt intake, smoked foods, and low in fruits and vegetables. The risk factor can also be due to the consumption of the foods which have not been stored properly. Avoiding eating stale food will also help in reducing the risk factors. Another factor is smoking cigarettes and the hereditary reasons are also increase the risk of stomach cancer.

The symptoms of the gastric cancer which leads to bloating are indigestion, stomach discomfort or pain. The other symptoms which are observed during the earlier stage are:
  •     Indigestion and stomach discomfort as the digestive system is hampered
  •     A feeling of bloating is caused due to indigestion
  •     Mild nausea is a part of the malfunctioning digestive system
  •     Loss of appetite which is the result of nausea and indigestion
  •     Indigestion can lead to heartburn as the acid reflux is possible causing irritation to the esophagus

The symptoms observed in more advanced stage are:
  •     Blood passing in the stools
  •     Vomiting which is understandable due to the indigestion taking place
  •     Weight loss without any specific reason
  •     Acute stomach pain because of the bloating and the indigestion taking place
  •         Since the bloating and the damage takes place around the digestive area and the liver it is quite possible that this condition would result in Jaundice
  •         By the time the damage is understood, it can also cause piling up of the fluid in the abdomen
  •         Acid reflux, indigestion, heartburn can naturally lead to the trouble in swallowing the food.

Conclusion:
The bloated stomach cancer is difficult to cure though through modern techniques as it has become easy to clean the damaged tissues. But cancer is mainly the development of the cells which means the cyclic recurrence of the malignant cells over the period of time.

Thrombophilia Types Causes and Symptoms

Thrombophilia is a disease that leads to the problem of blood coagulation. This can be treated easily with the help of medicines, surgeries, genetic therapies etc. If the disease is too chronic then it can be suppressed easily. A person must take medication as per the doctor’s prescription. Some of the common drugs that are generally prescribed as warfarin and heparin. Heparin is also available in the form of injection and it is chosen over warfarin to treat pregnant women. The treatment of this blood disorder must be done under strict medical supervision. Women must undergo proper and regular tests during pregnancy to avoid severe consequences later.

Thrombophilia is also termed as hypercoagulability. This disease is related to blood clot problems. Generally, people with thrombophilia either have an overload of proteins that cause the blood to clot or too few proteins working as anti-clotting agents. It may be due to a genetic disorder, such as the Factor V Leiden mutation. It may also be acquired or caused by another factor, such as pregnancy, cancer, pharmaceutical drugs, obesity, or other illnesses. People around the globe are affected by this disorder, and although it may be treated, there is no cure for it.

Types of Thrombophilia

The two main types of thrombophilia are given as follows:

Inherited thrombophilia: The inherited are also called as genetic thrombophilia or the thrombophilia that is passed on from parents to off springs. This causes abnormal blood clot in the body. The main reason behind this problem is the faulty gene during the mutation process. The syndrome that is present in blood due to inheritance is called as “thrombosis”, a kind of blood clot. These blood clots occur due to absence or less quantity of protein called as factor V in the body. The inherited thrombosis can be chronic or mild depending on the loss of factor V.
Acquired Thrombophilia: Thrombophilia that is not inherited are called as acquired ones. In such type of thrombophilia, the genes are normal but there is some other underlying cause. Generally, the reason becomes clearer during adulthood. It may happens as a side effect of some other disease or can be due to deficiency of certain proteins. Even heavy medication and weak immune system can be one of the reasons.

Causes of thrombophilia

Some of the causes of thrombophilia are given as follows:

Thrombophilia can be either congenital or acquired. The congenital factors happen by birth of the person due to the faulty gene in the body.
Drugs: Many times, overdose of certain drugs affects the body metabolism. The thickening of the blood gives rise to blood clot problems.
Immune System: A weaker immune system can be one of the reasons for thrombophilia. The weaker immune system affects the blood circulation process.

Symptoms of Thrombophilia

Some of the symptoms of thrombophilia are given as follows:

Blood clots: They are the main symptoms of thrombophilia. Acute deep venous thrombosis or acute DVT, presence of blood clot in large veins and acute PE that is presence of blood clot in the arteries are the two main ways of presence of blood clots. If blood clots are present in the arteries then they can travel easily to the lungs and the heart.
  •     Thickening of blood that leads to improper blood circulation in the body
  •     Sudden loss of blood flow in lower limbs or legs
  •     Minor heart attacks
  •     Delay in blood clotting process
  •     Chances of severe internal bleeding during childbirth
  •     Stillbirth or retarded growth of the brain also shows that a woman is thromphilic

Migraine Headache Types Symptoms Causes and Treatment

Migraine headache is one of the most severe types of headache that is associated with intense pain. The symptoms of migraine headache are nausea or vomiting, stomach upset, abdominal pain, paleness, fatigue, fizziness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light or noise, and sensations of being very warm or cold. The types of migraine headache may vary from one individual to another. It is estimated that one out of every five patients of headache suffers from migraine attack including visual disturbances known as auras. An aura is defined as a neurological problem that appears as hallucinations, blind spots, blind spots, zigzag patterns of bright light, increased sensitivity to light, bright flashes of light and other visual abnormalities.

Types of Migraine Headaches

Migraine without aura- Mostly people suffer from this type of migraine headache. It usually occurs on one side of the head, with acute pain. It is also associated with increased sensitivity to light and sound as well as nausea. Usually people suffering from migraine have two to four migraine attack every month. Some may suffer from one attack a month and some may only have one or two a year. Approximately one-third of the patient suffering from migraine has an aura prior to headache pain. The migraine pain lasts for at least four hours, but in severe condition, it can last for a week.  Migraine attack can come at any time in the day or at night.
Migraine aura without a headache- It is usually referred to as migraine equivalent and is characterized by an aura with no pain in the head region. The symptoms of migraine aura without headache are nausea, loss of appetite tiredness, fatigue and dizziness.
Classic migraine- Classic migraine usually includes visual disturbances such as flickering lights, zigzag lines or even temporary blindness. Common symptoms of classic migraine stiffness in neck, weakness on one side, numbness, tingling sensations, confusion, fainting and partial paralysis. It is associated with aura and approximately one in ten people have aura with migraine. The symptoms of aura usually last for less than an hour.
Common migraine- It is associated with persistent and severe throbbing or pain on one side of your head. The symptoms of common migraine are sensitive to light and sound, feeling of sickness, vomiting and diarrhea. The attack of common migraine lasts between 4 to72 hours.
Retinal migraines- Retinal migraine is a type of migraine that is characterized by the disturbance of vision such as decreased vision, twinkling lights, or even lost vision.  It usually occurs in one eye preceding to the migraine headache.
Hemiplegic migraine- This type of migraines usually occurs in children and is accompanied by an altered sensation on one side of the body which leads to partial paralysis. The child may face problem in speaking. In severe case, the disability may be permanent.
Transformed migraines- This type of migraine is characterized by frequent attacks, which may come over a period of months and years. Statistics show that it is caused due to overdose of medicine as well as reaction to the medicine. This may also lead to the discontinuation of the medicines that may lead to another complication.
Status migrainous- Status migrainous is a type of migraine attack that lasts for more than three days. It is caused by dilated blood vessels in the brain.
Basilar artery migraine- It is a rare form of migraine which causes dizziness, confusion, and lack of balance. It appears suddenly and can result in visual disturbances, vomiting, and inability to speak properly. It is also related to hormonal influences. Young adult women and adolescent girls are mostly prone to it.
Abdominal migraine- Children is mostly prone to abdominal migraine, as it includes symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea.

These are the types of migraine headaches, people have and the common treatments for these headaches are the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Symptoms of migraine headache

There are certain symptoms of migraine headache, which include:
  •     Diarrhea
  •     Fatigue and muscle tension
  •     Inability to eat
  •     Nausea and vomiting
  •     Lack of concentration
  •     Loss of appetite
  •     Scalp tenderness
  •     Throbbing and constant pain
  •     Paleness
  •     Dizziness or vertigo
  •     Worsening of pain while head movement
  •     Moderate to severe pain that affects whole head
  •     Sensations of being very warm or cold
  •     Sensitivity to light, noise or odors
  •     Visual disturbance or problems such as flashes of light or some spots in the vision
  •     Abnormal body sensations, for example paresthesias or numbness sensation

Causes of migraine headache

Researchers are yet going on to find the exact cause of migration headache, but it can be associates with certain condition, such as
  •     Emotional and mental stress
  •     Food allergies
  •     Excessive exercises
  •     Barometric pressure headaches
  •     Depression or other mental condition
  •     Hormonal imbalance, especially in women during menstrual cycle and menopause

Treatment of migraine headaches

There are certain treatments, which are used to cure migraine headache to a great extant, which include:

Non-medication therapies for migraine headache

These are also referred as preventative therapy or home therapies which include applying ice packs on the affected area, taking proper and balanced diet, having a good and peaceful sleep at night, taking adequate amount of rest etc. Avoidance of alcohol and certain caffeine products, avoiding certain food rich in nutrients such as sharp cheeses that contains containing sulphites or nitrates. There should be change in the lifestyle, which should be followed by certain exercises, meditation and yoga. Acupuncture therapy is also used to reduce the effect of migraine headache to a great extent.

Medication for migraine

Medication is prescribed by the doctor by seeing the severity of the patient, and therefore the dose of the patients varies from time to time. Over-the-counter medications are prescribed by the doctor. This is divided into two parts; namely acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Acetaminophen is basically used to reduce pain in the brain. It is usually considered better than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). But over dose of it can also cause complications such as damage of the liver and heart problems. The side effects can also lead to damage of the kidney. Therefore, it is important to see for a well qualified doctor who can prescribe the right dose according to the severity. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) include aspirin and non-aspirin. Non-aspirin include ibuprofen (Advil, Nuprin, Motrin IB, and Medipren) and naproxen (Aleve). Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are also used to reduce inflammation and pain. Corticosteroids are also used to reduce the burning sensation, but it is prohibited to use it for a longer period of time, since it has some side effects associated with it.

Correct treatment of migraine headache depends upon the correct diagnosis of it. Sometimes people tend to ignore the symptoms of headache and it later becomes severe causing migraine. So do not ignore any symptoms of migraine headache as it can lead to several other complications involving certain illnesses that could be life threatening.

Myelodysplastic Syndrome Sympotoms Classification Diagnosis and Treatment

Myelodysplastic syndrome treatment is very important to lead a healthy life. If the treatment is not done in a perfect way, then a person can be contracted to several recurrent infections, cancer development etc. Myelodysplastic syndrome should not be taken light and the medication must be done under strict medical supervision otherwise it can be fatal.

Myelodysplastic syndrome is a group of  of disorder that happens if the blood cells are produced in sufficient quantity due to some problem in the bone marrow. Bone marrow is a spongy material preset within bones where blood cells are produced. Treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes generally focuses on correcting the bone marrow. The treatment options will increase the lifespan of the patients.

Classification of Myelodysplastic Syndrome

There are two chief ways to classify myelodysplastic syndrome. The classification is based on the presence of leukemic blast cells.

Chronic and Non-progressive Anemia: In this type, the count of all the blood cells (RBC, WBC, Blood Platelets) decreases but there is no confirmation of the leukemic blast or cancerous cells in the body.

Symptomatic and Progressive Blood Cell Deficiencies: In this classification, there is a presence of leukemic blast cells or cancerous cells in the bone marrow of the infected person.

Symptoms of Myelodysplastic Syndrome

Fatigue: Due to the absence of blood cells, the whole metabolism is affected and thus weakness happens.
Shortness of Breath: As the red blood cells in the body decreases, this in turn decreases the oxygen level. Breathlessness is due to this problem.
Pale Color of Skin: The lack of oxygen due to decreased amount of red blood cells is the main reason for paler looking skin.
Easy Bruising: The bruising becomes easy as the white blood cells decreases in number.
Petechiae: They are tiny pin sized blood dots present just under the skin. Weaker immune system is the main reason for this.
Infections: The lower level of white blood cells makes the immune system weaker and this gives rise to inclination toward recurrent infections..

Diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome

Some of the options for proper diagnosis are given as follows:

Blood Tests: A complete blood test is important to know the actual number of each blood cell present. This helps to figure out the treatment option.
Bone marrow for testing: To know the extent of the defect in the bone marrow, a sample of fluid present in the bone marrow is taken for testing. This fluid is responsible for the formation of blood cells. This diagnostic test will help a lot to tell whether bone marrow transplantation is required or not.

Myelodysplastic Syndrome Treatment

There is no proper treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes.
Instead, supportive care can reduce the chances of getting more diseases. Some of the treatment options are given as follows:

Blood transfusions: This is one of the most important options of getting primary treatment of MDS. With the help of blood transfusions, the red blood cells (RBC’s), white blood cells (WBC’s) and blood platelets numbers can be normalized easily. The only precaution to be taken is to find a matched donor and test the donor’s blood to avoid entry of foreign infections.
Medications: Medication is also one of the best options to increase the count of healthy RBC, WBC and blood platelets in the body. There are various sort of medicines that help to increase the count like:

Drugs that increase the count of blood cells produced by the body: Such drugs are often referred as growth factors; these pills are synthetic adaptation of the substances present naturally in the bone marrow for cell production. Some examples are darbepoietin or erythropoietin. They reduce the need of blood transfusions.

Drugs that encourage maturation of blood cell: Many times, the count of cell decreases because they remain immature. Some pills like decitabine (Dacogen) and azacitidine (Vidaza) help the cells to mature timely and properly. However, some people can develop infections with these pills as well.

Drugs for immune system suppression: This is not widely used but if the functionality of the immune system is controlled then count of WBC can be equalized up to an extent.

Drugs to cure genetic abnormality: Some times, the blood count is affected due to the some genetic problem. Some of the medicines that are recommended are Del (5q), or lenalidomide (Revlimid).

Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant: This is one of the most popular treatment options that can be used in case of bone marrow diseases. In this treatment procedure, the healthy ones substitute the defective bone marrow stem cells. This procedure is easier to carry out in younger patients. In addition, the main issue lies in getting the matched bone marrow donor preferably siblings. Many times, even after the correct operation the patient’s blood count is not normal.

Supportive Care: This primary treatment helps a lot in detecting the reasons for MDS. Proper initial medication is one of the key terms in stabilizing the patient’s condition.
Chemotherapy: This is also a common treatment option. In this method, the malignant cells or the unhealthy cells are destroyed with the help of radiations. Then the healthy cells are placed to increase the production and thus the count of RBC, WBC and platelets.

Some about Black Eye Symptoms

Black eye may occur following any object striking the eye or head. The impact of the strike may break few delicate blood vessels in and around the eyes. This results in collection of blood beneath the eye skin causing the black or bluish color to appear. Black eye symptoms include swelling and appearance of black color around the eye. However, black eye condition is not considered to be a serious condition and does not damage any eye tissue permanently. Men are more vulnerable to get black eyes due to injury than women. Initially, after any injury the eye immediately does not turn black, but turns red. Gradually, it grows black in color and eventually the bruising goes off and the eye resumes its natural color. Most likely, black eye syndrome does not require any treatment and one can diagnose it on own, until any complications in the symptoms are noticed.

Black Eye Symptoms

There are various symptoms related to black eyes. Some of these symptoms may resemble with the symptoms related to other eye disorders. Many symptoms are easily diagnosed by the individual, however, if the symptoms are complicated then, medical investigation is required to conclude the cause and treatment. Discussed below are some of the common symptoms of black eye syndrome:

Eye pain is the most common symptom of the black eye condition. Pain in the eye may be characterized by throbbing and aching sensation. There may be a foreign body presence Black eye Bruise Around the Eye

sensation due to injury. If the pain does not go within a few days, it is a call for medical attention.
Swelling of the eyes is another very significant and prominent symptoms associated with black eye condition. However, this symptom is common with few other eye disorders. The other symptoms associated to black eye help to distinguish it from the symptoms related to other eye disorders. The swelling of the eye is caused due to the accumulation of blood underneath the skin in the tissues. This causes the skin of the eyes and the surrounding areas to appear puffy. The swelling is not a severe condition and usually disappears in around 10 days as the blood clears from the tissues.
Discoloration of the skin of the eyes and surrounding areas. The discoloration initially appears as red that grows darker gradually to purplish blue or black. As the blood accumulates in the tissues under the eye, the skin clears off the discoloration.
The person having a black eye may experience difficulty in opening the eyelids. This may be due to the excess swelling or extra sensitivity to light.
Blurry vision is another complaint in black eye condition. The excessive fluid accumulation beneath the skin and the damage to the eye tissues result in the vision to distort. However, this is a rare symptom and short-lived till the bruising disappears.
A person with black eye condition may even complaint about headache, nausea, loss of sight, changes in vision fluid leakage from eyeball, inability to move the eyes or difficulty in looking in different directions then, it may be alarming signs to call for expert medical attention to diagnose the underlying cause and treat it accordingly.

Black eye is a common condition related to eye and generally reported by sports person, who undergo small eye injury. The black eye symptoms help to diagnose the black eye condition and take remedial actions to cure it before it worsens. Symptoms of black eye include pain, swelling and vision changes. Some of the symptoms like swelling and pain are not severe and do not need any medical attention. However, if a person experiences changes in vision or consistent blurred vision, then he/she should consult physician to prevent further damage to the eyes and treat the cause. Some of the home remedies to treat black eyes are cold and warm compress, prescription of pain killers like caffeine and massaging the affected area.

Thyroid eye disease As Graves’ disease Symptoms

Thyroid eye disease is usually caused due to the over production of the thyroid hormones due to over productive thyroid glands.  Thyroid eye disease is however, different from the thyroid disease. Also, it is not necessary for the all the thyroid people to experience thyroid eye disease. Thyroid eye disease symptoms may be recurrent and occur in varying degree of severity.  Thyroid eye disease is more likely to affect women than men. Usually women in their 30s experience the symptoms related to thyroid eye disease. However, even men and children are reported to have this disease. This disease can be diagnosed by doctors due to its characteristic eye signs. The treatment for these symptoms is simple and rarely needs a surgery.

Thyroid Eye Disease Symptoms:

Many times, the symptoms related to Graves’ disease may appear as soon as the thyroid gland becomes overactive. The presentation of the symptoms may be prior to the detection of hyperthyroidism. However, the symptoms may be inactive for months or even years from the over production of thyroid glands. Following are the most commonly observed symptoms related to Graves’ disease:

Sore Eyes – The most common symptom of thyroid eye disease is the sore and gritty eyes. Usually, one eye is affected more than the other. However, both the eyes may have the same effect too.
Protrusion of the eyeballs – This is also known as proptosis. In this situation, the eyes become curved towards the outward direction. Protrusion generally affects only one eyeball or it may present in both the eyes. Around 70-90% people with thyroid eye disease may complain about this symptom. Protrusion may be caused due to the collection of fats and inflammation in the tissues behind the eyes. Proptosis may even lead to cornea ulcer due to increased exposure of cornea. Due to proptosis, a person may find it difficult to close the eyes while sleeping or blink as usual.
Inflammation or irritation of eyes – Inflammation of the eye tissues may occur in thyroid eye disease. Even swelling of the eyes or the tissues surrounding it may appear significant in the disease.
Startled look – The swelling in the orbital tissues, cause the muscles in the eyelids tighten and stretch the gap between the upper eyelid and lower eyelid. This makes the person eyes to have ‘staring’ look, where white area surrounding the pupil appears more.
Swelling of conjunctiva – The thin layer covering the white area of the eye is called the conjunctiva. Thyroid disease may cause redness and swelling to appear in the conjunctiva. Eyes may appear bloodshot.
Double vision – The muscles, which control the movements of eyes may increase as a result of swelling and thus further to the problem of double vision. Usually, it is difficult to associate this symptom with the thyroid eye disease, as the symptom is common to other eye related disorders.
Dryness and excessive tearing – As the disease causes eyes to bulge and furthers to overexposure and difficulty in closing the eyelids, it may lead to inflammation and dryness of the eyes. This further leads to excessive tearing as a reaction to lubricate the eyes.

Apart from the above given thyroid eye disease symptoms, there may be a few other symptoms like decreased sharpness of vision, abnormal color vision, pressure and pain in the eyes and discomfort in the eyes. As said earlier, thyroid eye disease is a disease resulting due to the dysfunction of thyroid gland. This is an autoimmune disease. This disease usually termed as Graves’ disease may lead to the condition known as Graves’ opthamopathy. The treatment for the symptoms of the disease is dependent on the severity of the symptoms and verification of the thyroid levels.

Ophthalmic Migraines Symptoms

some types of migraines like eye migraines characterized with visual disturbances. Eye migraines are also known as ocular migraines. The eye migraine symptoms may or may not be followed by headache. Pain is the common symptom of any type of migraine and eye migraine is not an exception. People may experience complete blindness after an attack that may last for an hour. Eye migraine symptoms help to distinguish between the eye migraine with aura where the cause of migraine lies with brain and eye migraine with visual disturbances, where the root cause of the disorder lies with retinal blood vessels. The symptoms of eye migraine are experienced in either eye at a time. Eye migraine may result after computer strain, watching television or reading books for a long time. One should observe the triggers so as to understand the pattern of the attack.

Ophthalmic MigraineSymptoms
The symptoms of eye migraine are closely related to abnormalities of the blood vessels in the eyes. Eye migraine is common in females and in those who have family history of migraines. Some of the common symptoms related to eye migraine are discussed below:

The most common and primary symptoms of eye migraine is blind spots. The blind spot may be small at the beginning and grow slowly. Such a blind spot of vision of ‘nothing’ in the central or peripheral field of vision of the sufferer. This can lead in distortion of vision. The distortion may include shimmering, zigzag and flashy lights. The symptoms may present in one eye and by closing the affected eye, one can have clear and complete vision. Eventually, even the affected eye becomes normal after some time.
Pain may be experienced by the person in the affected eye. Sometimes, pain may follow the visual disturbances or precede it. The pain may be throbbing or steady and may feel like extreme pressure in the eyes. However, resting in a quiet and dark room may help soothe the pain quickly.
The visual disturbances in eye migraine may result in the vision getting a gray tinge. Everything in the vision appears to be gray in color. Even a blue sky may seem grayish blue in color.
The duration of the trigger or attack of eye migraine may last for about 20 minutes. The maximum time limit that a migraine attack may last is 30 minutes.
People suffering with eye migraine may complain about audible illusions like constant ringing or buzzing in the ear.
Other few common symptoms of eye or ocular migraine are extra sensitivity towards bright light. A person may experience partial vision loss for some time. The vision through affected eye of ocular migraine is like through glasses, which are watery, or with flowing water.
Some people may even experience diplopia or double vision, nausea, congestion and vomiting along with moderate headache as a symptom for eye migraine.

Eye migraine is also termed as ocular migraine, silent migraine, ophthalmic migraines, acephalgic migraine, and even retinal migraine. It is a common condition. Like any other migraine, eye migraine symptoms include pain. However, there are various other symptoms related to the vision disturbances. The most likely causes to trigger eye migraine are extensive work on the computer screen, watching television for long hours, stress, caffeine, excessive intake of alcohol and exposure to bright blinking lights. The visual disturbances caused by eye migraine may last for 20-30 minutes. However, during the primary attack of migraine, one may get scared about the resuming of normal vision. Usually the symptoms disappear after the mentioned time and do not need any treatment.
