Verious Kind of Ectopic Pregnancy

As the fetus continues to grow so does its demand for the blood and it doesn’t find sufficient space to grow properly. It starts to grow in the organs which are not designed for the pregnancy and damages them causing bleeding from the arteries and vessels. Apart from the tubes the ovum can be implanted in the ovaries, abdomen and in the cervix too. This is also a condition where the embryo is unable to reach the destination but instead holds on to the lining of the organs mentioned above. Of all the ectopic pregnancies 95% are the tubal pregnancies, 1.5% are the abdominal pregnancies, 0.5% are ovarian pregnancies, and 0.03% are cervical pregnancies.

When the zygote implants itself in the fallopian tubes it is termed as the tubal pregnancies, in the ovaries then it is called as the ovarian pregnancy, if in the cervix then it would be termed as the cervical pregnancy, and if somewhere in the abdomen then it is called as the abdominal pregnancy as the case may be.

Tubal Pregnancy:

As discussed, if the zygote that is the early stage of the fertilized egg cannot move to the uterus which is its destination and rather gets trapped in the fallopian tube on its way to the womb. Then it will be implanted in to the lining or the mucus membrane of the tube and start developing in it. The tubal or ectopic pregnancy leads to severe pain and internal bleeding as the thin wall of the tube cannot stretch to accommodate the growing pregnancy and eventually ruptures.

It is quite possible to detect the tubal pregnancy before it ruptures. Pain is already present before tubal rupture occurs. Thus pain should always be investigated especially the one which happens after an absent period.

If the tube ruptures the pregnancy dies and the hormonal level drops which leads to the endometrial bleeding. With the help of the modern advanced examinations like laparoscopic diagnosis, treatment is possible at an early stage.  Laparoscopy avoids open surgery. The treatment is either through the laparascopy or the surgical removal of the abnormal pregnancy. If the tube is just stretched but not ruptured then the doctor tries to remove the pregnancy without any damage or minimum damage to the tube. If the tube is already ruptured then the damaged part is removed which is called as the partial salpingectomy. This will cause the tube to be blocked due to which the other needs to function well for the fertility.

Ovarian Pregnancy: In this case the fertilized egg doesn’t channel into the fallopian tubes but gets fertilized in the peritoneal cavity and then implants into the ovary. The symptoms are the same as that of the tubal pregnancy accompanied by the severe internal bleeding. This is a very rare case and needs to be removed surgically.

Intra Abdominal Pregnancy: An egg cell alike in the ovarian pregnancy doesn’t channel into the tube and fertilize in the peritoneal cavity and then gets implanted anywhere on it. This pregnancy can take time to develop and go on for months before they are detected or diagnosed. The diagnosis is done and confirmed by a sonar examination. The sonar examination can show the fetus separate from the uterus. Though this condition is rare but there are a lot of incidences of high abnormalities due to the pressure on the fetus.

Cervical Pregnancy: This kind of ectopic pregnancy develops when the fertilized cells passes through the cavity of the womb into the cervical canal. The cells get implanted in the cervical canal and start developing in here. Since the canal cannot accommodate the pregnancy, it starts bleeding but the pregnancy is not viable, thus will also have to be removed surgically. This is a very rare condition.

All the kinds of the ectopic pregnancy lead to the same symptoms like severe pain, bleeding, and cramps.  But there is possibility of conceiving after the ectopic pregnancy depending upon the damaged occurred during the removal of ectopic pregnancy.
