The fetus cannot survive in such a condition as it cannot grow well and if it continues to grow well then that might lead to life threatening complications for the expectant mother. The causes of the ectopic pregnancy need to be taken into consideration as only after knowing the causes can one prevents them.
Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy which occurs outside the womb or the uterus.
Causes of the ectopic pregnancy are yet not known but if we analyze when the ectopic pregnancy takes place we would be able to determine the causes of the ectopic pregnancy. The fertilization of the egg takes place in the fallopian tubes, from there the fertilized egg travels to the destination and that is the womb or the uterus but if this route has a lot of obstacles like choked fallopian tubes then the zygote i.e. the fertilized egg in the initial stage cannot move ahead and starts growing in the fallopian tubes developing into the tubal ectopic pregnancy.
The obstacles can be due to the choked fallopian tubes, hormonal factors and other factor like smoking too. In almost half of the cases, women with ectopic pregnancy have had swelling or inflammation of the fallopian tubes or the pelvic inflammatory disease, due to which there is this rare complication in their pregnancy called ectopic pregnancy. Apart from the inflammation, sometimes even scarring of the tubes causes ectopic pregnancy. The other causes are:
Apart from the above stated causes the following also increases the increase of the risk like:
There are complications due to ectopic pregnancy which could even result in the death of the expectant mother. In order to avoid the complications it is very important that an ectopic pregnancy is detected and diagnosed at an early stage. The later stage of an ectopic pregnancy is more likely to damage the fallopian tubes and lead to an increased likelihood of having another ectopic pregnancy in the future. You will also be at a higher risk of a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and severe internal bleeding, and drop in the blood pressure level in an extreme level leading to the death of the expectant mother. There are many cases of conceiving normally after an ectopic pregnancy if no complication has taken place during the ectopic pregnancy and it has been removed smoothly.
Prevention of the ectopic pregnancy:
Prevention is very difficult in the case of ectopic pregnancy. In the case of abnormal birth defect in the fallopian tubes, it can be difficult to prevent from the egg developing into the ectopic pregnancy.
But if we consider the other causes of the ectopic pregnancy if they are controlled or watched for then the ectopic pregnancy can be controlled or prevented from happening. The main cause for the ectopic pregnancy is the pelvic inflammatory disease which is mainly caused due to the sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia or gonorrhea. These are transmitted to a certain limit if you have many sexual partners, or practice unsafe sexual relations. These sexually transmitted diseases start in the vagina and spread to the reproductive organs higher up. To prevent yourself from the sexually transmitted diseases, ask your partner to use the condom as the male condom is the most effective method of preventing the diseases.
Another way of preventing ectopic pregnancy is to have regular sexual health checkups from your local genitor urinary medicine called the GUM or the sexual health clinic. This checkup is very important in the cases when you
1. Start a relationship with a new partner
2. After having unprotected sex
3. After sexually coming in contact with someone who you think must have been infected with a sexually transmitted Infection
4. If you experience any symptoms of an STI
