Foot Cancer Symptoms
Pain or/ and swelling mostly in the foot, chest, legs, arms, pelvis, or back
A lump that may feel warm to touch occurring in the foot, chest, pelvis, or arms
Fever for unidentified reason
A bone that may crack for an unknown reason
These and other related symptoms may occur due to foot cancer or other conditions too may trigger the same symptoms. It is advisable to consult a doctor if above problems occur.
The following tests and procedures a doctor may order to stage and diagnose foot cancer.
Complete blood count (CBC): this procedure draws a sample of blood to check the following things:
The amount of white and red blood cells and platelets
The level of hemoglobin in the red blood cells
The part of the blood sample made-up of red blood cells
Sedimentation rate: This procedure is used in which a sample of blood is taken and tested out for the rate at which the red blood cells stick to the bottom of the test tube.
Blood chemistry studies: Substances such as lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) that are freed into the blood by the tissues and organs in the body are checked to calculate the amount. A lower or higher level of amount of the substance is a sign of disorder.
Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy: This is the removal of blood, bone marrow, and a small piece of bone by slotting a hollow needle in the hipbone. Samples are taken from both the hipbones. A pathologist will check the bone, blood, and bone marrow under a microscope to find out cancer cells.
Bone scan: This test checks for the quickly dividing cancer cells in the bone. The patient is injected with tiny amount of radioactive material in the vein and a scanner scans the material that is being collected in the bone.
PET scan: This scanning procedure is much like the bone scan test; however, it finds the malignant tumor cells in the body. The patient is injected with radioactive sugar (glucose) in the vein and a PET scanner scans the body and creates a picture of sugar. Malignant tumors show more clearly than normal cells in the picture.
A CT and an MRI scan: CT scan uses x-ray machine attached to a computer and MRI uses a magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create series of detailed pictures of the inside of the body.
X-ray: X-rays are taken to find out affected areas by employing energy beam that passes through the body.
Physical exam and history of the patient: The doctor will check the patient’s body for signs of disease. They will ask the patient about their health habits, previous conditions, and treatments.
Thus we have discussed foot cancer symptoms along with the diagnostic tests and the cancer family in which it is grouped.
