The earliest symptom of chronic appendicitis.

The following are the symptoms which occur in all the patients of chronic appendicitis. These are known as atypical symptoms of chronic appendicitis.

The earliest symptom is the pain which develops in the abdominal area usually around the naval. The pain is dull at the beginning and as the time passes by it aggravates. The pain is shifted to the right side of the abdomen slowly where the appendix is located.
The pain stays in that area for a long time and grows more intense.
The region of this pain differs from patient to patient. The pain is felt at Mc Burney’s point. It is over the right side of the abdomen that is one third of the distance from the anterior superior iliac spine to the umbilicus. To locate this point, trace a line on the right side of the abdomen from the naval point to the point where you feel the top of pelvic bone. Mark an approximate midpoint on this line. This point is Mc Burney’s point where the pain of appendicitis is located.
  • The position of the Mc Burney’s point may differ in children and pregnant women.
  • Actions involving abdominal muscular activities like running, bending, coughing sneezing etc. intensify the pain.
  • General loss of appetite is also one of the symptoms of chronic appendicitis
  • Digestive problems like constipation and diarrhea is seen in the patients of chronic appendicitis
  • Nausea and vomiting is a common symptom in chronic appendicitis. In some cases, there might be increased frequency of urination.
