Erythromycin is a common acne treatment ingredient that’s very safe and gentle. It can even be used by pregnant women. It is an antibiotic that removes the dirt and impurities on the skin while allowing inflammation to subside. However, safe as it may be for the health, it can cause some undesirable temporary side effects like redness, irritation, and skin peeling. Some erythromycin creams are available over the counter, while others require prescriptions.
Clindamycin is the most widely used active ingredient in treating acne, followed by erythromycin. This is also an antibiotic, and it strongly requires prescription before you can purchase it. The main active drug that works in this ingredient is benzoyl peroxide. Like erythromycin, it can cause skin irritation, redness, and itching, but this is only temporary. The best way to optimize the effectiveness of clindamycin is by applying it twice daily on the affected skin areas, but only a minimal amount of cream is required.
Niacinamide is a new acne solution that has been recently discovered. This is a very safe and gentle formula that uses no antibiotic, but only vitamin B3 which is a nutrient that’s used by the body for many different functions. Creams with niacinamide are recent products, and they have been proven very effective in solving various acne problems. In fact, as compared to antibiotics like clindamycin, niacinamide is found to be more effective.
Metronidazol is effective for adult acne, also known as rosacea. This is used mostly in the fomr of gel with 0.75% concentration. It is quite safe and is very effective, but like other treatments, it can have several temporary side effects. Metronidazol is used for rosacea, and it is a very effective treatment, but it is not as popularly used as clindamycin or erythromycin.
