What happens in Asthma?
Our lungs consist of breathing tubes called bronchi that carry air to the lungs. These bronchi divide and subdivide until they become tiny and end in small sacs called alveoli. The transfer of oxygen from the air to the blood and carbon dioxide from the blood back to the air takes place in the alveoli. The airways are normally clear and patent, the air flow through them easily. In asthmatics a condition of severe attack of asthma, the bronchi are swollen and narrowed which results in difficulty of passage of air through them.In addition the bronchi also produce significantly more mucus that causes further obstruction
