Symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome
Some of the symptoms of metabolic syndrome are described here:
Abdominal Obesity: Obesity is a reason for many diseases and protruded belly or abdominal obesity is one of the major symptoms of this problem. Such bellies are termed as “pot belly” or “beer belly”. This condition arises when the surplus visceral fat stocks up around the stomach and waist and causes bulging of abdomen. This increases the chances of cardiovascular and obesity problems. Mean with waist size more than 40 and women with waistline more than 35 inches have higher risk of developing various metabolic disorders.
Insulin Resistance: This is another important symptom for metabolic syndrome. This problem happens when the body stops responding to insulin present in the body. The pancreas becomes overactive but the production of glucose is not as per the requirement. Therefore, there is an increase in the level of insulin in the body. The improper level of glucose and insulin increases the risk of diabetes. A person with this symptoms shows excessive thirst, urination (frequency increases) and fatigue.
High Blood Pressure: High Blood pressure or hypertension is one of the main symptoms if any irregularity occurs in the body metabolism. If high blood pressure is left untreated then it is like a ‘silent killer’. This is one of the fatal symptoms against metabolic syndrome disease. Hypertension can lead to severe conditions like cardiovascular attacks, stroke, kidney damage and congestive heart failure. Hyperinsulinemia (excess levels of insulin circulation) and insulin resistance are the basic reason for the rise in the level of blood pressure.
Cholesterol: High level of cholesterol is also one of the symptoms of metabolic syndrome. This again has harmful effects on the cardiovascular system of the infected person. This condition generally triggers serious troubles like mild strokes, heart-burning sensation as well. If the body is opposing the consumption of insulin and secretion of insulin in the pancreas makes the condition more severe.
Peripheral Neuropathy: This symptom is seen when there is a neuro disorder. This disorder damages the nerves of the infected person. This condition is also called as idiopathic neuropathy, and this can cause metabolic disorder. This serious nervous problem arises when minor problems like hypertension, obesity, and impaired glucose tolerance arise in the body and the body is unable to control them.
Symptoms of metabolic syndrome cause several cardiovascular problems and other complications. To avoid such metabolic syndrome condition, one must cultivate good eating habits and reduce the consumption of cholesterol. The accumulation of bad cholesterol increases the risk of several other diseases. The symptoms of metabolic syndrome explained above makes the person lazier and hence the risk increases. Many times, the symptoms of risks are inherited from the parents so a regular visit to doctor is always good. In addition, a person should always try to maintain an appropriate body mass index.
