Indications:
ketorolac is indicated in the short-term management of moderately severe acute pain.Oral administration is used for pain management on a limited-duration PRN basis. Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent with potent analgesic properties.
Pharmacodynamics:Ketorolac, an antiinflammatory agent with analgesic and antipyretic properties, is used to treat osteoarthritis and control acute pain. It is a peripherally acting analgesic. The biological activity of ketorolac tromethamine is associated with the S-form. Ketorolac tromethamine possesses no sedative or anxiolytic properties.
Doses & Administrations:
ADULT:I/M:ONCE DAILY:patients less than 65 years of age is 60 milligrams (mg) one time; the intramuscular dose for patients 65 years of age and older, renally impaired, or weighing less than 50 kilograms is 30 mg one time MULTIPLE-DOSE THERAPY:30 MG Q6 HR I/M INTRAVENOUS: 30 MG ONCE DAILY OR 30 MG EVERY 6 HOURLY PEDIATRICS: Children aged 1 to 18 years received intravenous keetorolac 1 milligram/kilogram as a loading dose (maximum 60 milligrams) followed by 0.5 milligrams/kilogram (maximum 30 milligrams) every 6 hours for 48 to 72 hours ORAL DOSES ADULTS: The oral dosage is 10 mg every 4 to 6 hours to a maximum daily dose of 40 mg.
Pregnancy Status:
U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Pregnancy Category C C - Studies have shown that the drug exerts animal teratogenic or embryocidal effects, but there are no controlled studies in women, or no studies are available in either animals or women.
Renal Failure Doses:
Ketorolac is contraindicated in patients with serum creatinine concentrations indicating advanced renal impairment In patients with renal impairment, the intravenous bolus or intramuscular dose of ketorolac is 15 milligrams which may be repeated every 6 hours or as needed to a maximum of 60 milligrams daily. For single-dose therapy given intramuscularly, the dose is 30 milligrams one time.
STORAGE: Tablets should be stored at 15-30 C (59-86 F). Injectable solution should be stored at 15-30 C (59° to 86 F) and protected from light.

BREASTFEEDING: Unknown
Adverse Effects:
Oral and intramuscular doses have produced predominantly central nervous system and gastrointestinal adverse effects including somnolence, headache, dizziness, paresthesias, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and dyspepsia.
