Paroxetine Indications Contra Indications Precautions and Adverse Effects

Indications:
Paroxetine is a phenylpiperidine antidepressant agent which selectively inhibits serotonin uptake. Paroxetine is effective for treating the symptoms of depression, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder. 

Doses & Administrations:
The usual initial dosage is 10 to 20 milligrams (mg) daily; the maximum recommended dosage is 60 mg daily. Paroxetine is usually taken in morning with or without food
 
Contra Indications: 
concomitant use of linezolid concomitant use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) concomitant use of pimozide concomitant use of thioridazine hypersensitivity to paroxetine or any component of the product
 
Precautions:
A. History of seizures B. Activation of mania/hypomania C. Due to risk of suicide in depressed patients, careful monitoring is recommended D. Volume depletion or diuretic use or use in elderly patients may predispose to hyponatremia E. Impaired platelet aggregation
 
Pregnancy Status:
U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Pregnancy Category D
 
Renal Failure Doses:
The initial recommended dosage is 10 milligrams (mg) daily, and the maximum recommended dosage is 40 mg daily
 
Lactation Status:
BREASTFEEDING: Infant risk is minimal.

Adverse Effects: 
The primary adverse effects of paroxetine are nausea, sedation, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, insomnia, diaphoresis, and constipation; cardiovascular effects have been minimal, and less than those observed with tricyclic antidepressants in most reports.
