Way of Natural Remedies for Depression

Natural Remedies for depression are considered the best way to treat depression. Leaving this disease can lead to certain complications like obesity, or some other illness; so it is better to treat this disease as soon as possible.

Natural remedies for depression

With any natural remedies, it is important to consult your doctor before taking it, especially if you are taking other medicines. So there are some natural treatments for depression, which include:

    St. John’s Wort- This is one of the effective and beneficial form of treatment. It is made from a plant with the same name. St. John’s Wort. It is taken in the form of tablet, capsule or liquid extract. It is generally used to treat mild to moderate depression. This natural remedy is commonly used in many European countries. It is recommended not to take this drug, if you are taking an antidepressant. Side-effects include dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, sleep problems, restlessness, upset stomach and allergic reactions. Consult the doctor before the use of this medication.
    5-Hydroxy-Tryptophan (5-HTP)It is a natural antidepressant made from the seeds of Griffonia Simplicifolia plant, which is a precursor to neurotransmitter. As a result, there is an increase in the level of serotonin. It usually comes in the form of a capsule. The side effect of this remedy is less severe including nausea, heartburn, gas, drowsiness, constipation and decreased sexual desire. It should also be consulted with the doctor before use.
    Vitamin B12- Studies have been done and it has been concluded that deficiency of vitamin B12 cause depression. Vitamin B12 includes food such as chicken, fish, milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, meat or other vitamin B12 supplements. This natural remedy is not sufficient for the complete treatment of depression, but it can add advantage to it. 
    Omega 3 fatty acids- Omega 3 supplements such as capsules, oil can be used to reduce the effect of depression to an extent. It also includes the consumption of fish such as salmon, sardines which also help to treat depression.
    SAM-e- It is generally pronounced as “sammy”, and is a short name for S-adenosyl-L-methionine. It is a chemical which in naturally found in the human body. Several studies have proved that SAM-e is one of the best treatments for depression. It is also available as an over-the-counter supplement in food stores as well. Some side-effects include nausea and constipation.
    Folic acid- It is also called as folate. Folate is generally found in green leafy vegetables, fruit, beans, and fortified grains. Folic acid is also available as a supplement of a B-complex vitamin.

Diet for depression

There are some of the dietary measures which can be used to reduce the effect of depression, which include:
  •     Reduce the consumption of sweets
  •     Avoid caffeine and alcohol
  •     Increase in the intake of Vitamin B6
  •     Consume magnesium in your diets
