Amlodipine is indicated for the first line treatment of hypertension and can be used "as the sole agent to control blood pressure in the majority of patient.
Amlodipine besylate (Norvasc) is a drug that belongs to the drug class of calcium channel blockers (CCBs), and is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of angina (heart or chest pain) that results from coronary spasm and from exertion.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth, usually once daily with or without food or as directed by your doctor.
Amlodipine is also used to prevent certain types of chest pain (angina). It may help to increase your ability to exercise and decrease the frequency of angina attacks.

Small or fragile patients may be started on 2.5 mg orally once a day.

Chronic stable or vasospastic angina, or angiographically documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or an ejection fraction less than 40%: 5 to 10 mg orally once a day
Most patients with chronic stable or vasospastic angina require 10 mg for adequate effect. In clinical studies, most patients with coronary artery disease required 10 mg.
