About Chronic Kidney Infection Treatment and Symptoms

Chronic kidney infection symptoms show that kidney infection has progressed into advance stage and can cause permanent kidney damage and rarely, blood poisoning, if not treated as soon as possible. Glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis are the two most common bacteria that cause kidney infection.

Symptoms of chronic kidney infection

In normal cases, chronic kidney infection may display some of the less severe urinary tract infection symptoms. Some common chronic kidney infection symptoms include cloudy urine, foul smelling for urine, pain while urinating and urgent need to urinate frequently. The following are the real chronic kidney infection symptoms.Chronic kidney infection symptoms

Pain

Some people, who suffer from chronic kidney infection, have a history of an acute kidney infection, but most do not. Acute kidney infection can cause a dull, aching pain in the back, groin, abdominal or flank. A burning sensation while urinating also occurs along with the pain. Chronic kidney infection symptoms are vague. Some people experience pain in the abdomen or flank but others do not have pain.

Fever

Acute attack of kidney infection is accompanied with chills or night sweats and high fever. But, chronic kidney infection may cause a fever, which comes and goes or none at all. Rarely, fever occurs due to kidney abscesses, which is caused by xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis, or XPN, a rare form of chronic kidney infection. XPN is a complication of kidney obstruction that is caused by kidney stones. According to recent studies, as a result of severe kidney infection, body temperature may exceed 102 degrees and this may last for some days.

Malaise

Malaise is one of the common chronic kidney infection symptoms. As a result of this symptom, the patient may feel generally ill. Sometimes, loss of appetite may also occur along with this.  However, some patients with chronic kidney infection do not experience these symptoms.

Renal mass

XPN is a rare complication of kidney obstruction and is mainly caused by kidney stones. Middle-aged women, who have a history of frequent urinary tract infections, are at higher risk of experiencing XPN. But, in some situations, children may also suffer from this disease. The affected kidney enlarges and becomes scared. Sometimes abscesses may also occur on it. A mass in the affected kidney can almost be felt on physical examination.

Vomiting and nausea

Chronic kidney infection symptoms generally include nausea and vomiting. These symptoms could indicate that the infection has already progressed severely and has spread to kidneys.

Treatment of chronic kidney infection

Antibiotics are the common treatment for glomerulonephritis. The treatment may continue for one to two weeks, although the tests of blood, urine and blood pressure indicates that the kidneys are back to normal. Protein and sodium may be restricted during the treatment. Eliminating the bacteria with antibiotics given intravenously or orally to correct any obstruction is the most important measure for pyelonephritis. Sometimes long-term antibiotic therapy may be required, if the obstruction is not eliminated and recurrent infections are common.

If you doubt that you experience chronic kidney infection symptoms, you can clarify by diagnosing with the help of a doctor. Tests of kidney function and an evaluation as to whether protein is being passed through the urine can diagnose glomerulonephritis. Diagnosis helps the patient to accept proper treatment for sudden recovery.
